GTA 6 Map: Leonida & Vice City Overview

Updated August 20265 min readBy the HowToPlayHub team

GTA 6 (Grand Theft Auto VI) is set in Leonida, Rockstar's fictional take on Florida, built around a reimagined Vice City. Where past games centred on one city and its outskirts, GTA 6 spans an entire state — Rockstar has now put official names to all six regions that make it up. This page is your quick orientation to Leonida; for the size estimates and region-by-region breakdown, see our dedicated map size guide.

01What Is Leonida?

Leonida is the fictional U.S. state GTA 6 takes place in, standing in for modern-day Florida. At its heart sits Vice City — the series' long-running take on Miami, and, per Rockstar, the most detailed city the studio has ever built. Protagonists Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos both have ties to the state before the story begins: Jason works Vice City's underworld, while Lucia's history is tied to the Leonida Keys in the state's south.

Because the setting is a whole state rather than a single metro area, expect the range of environments a real U.S. state has — dense city, coastline, wetlands, farmland, and mountains — rather than one city and its immediate suburbs.

02The Six Confirmed Regions

Rockstar has named six regions across Trailer 2 (May 6, 2025) and the official screenshots released around pre-order launch on June 25-26, 2026 — not fan labels or leaks, but names that come directly from Rockstar's own material:

For a full breakdown of each region plus size comparisons against GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2, head to our GTA 6 map size guide. For what you can actually do in these regions, see our activities guide.

03What We Still Don't Know

We'll update this guide with a complete map breakdown once Rockstar publishes more, and again after launch on November 19, 2026.

FAQ

What is Leonida in GTA 6?

Leonida is the fictional U.S. state GTA 6 is set in, Rockstar's stand-in for modern-day Florida. Vice City, the series' long-running take on Miami, sits at its centre, with five other named regions making up the rest of the state.

Is Vice City the whole GTA 6 map?

No. Vice City is the state's main city and the region most heavily featured in trailers, but Leonida also includes five other named regions: Leonida Keys, Grassrivers, Mount Kalaga, Port Gellhorn, and Ambrosia.

What is Leonida based on?

Leonida is Rockstar's fictional version of Florida. Individual regions echo specific real-world areas — Grassrivers mirrors the Everglades, Leonida Keys mirrors the Florida Keys, and Mount Kalaga mirrors Florida's northern highland terrain.

How many regions are confirmed in the GTA 6 map?

Six: Vice City, Leonida Keys, Grassrivers, Mount Kalaga, Port Gellhorn, and Ambrosia — all named directly by Rockstar across Trailer 2 and the June 2026 pre-order screenshots, not leaks or fan guesses.

Where can I find GTA 6 map size estimates?

See our dedicated GTA 6 map size guide, which covers community size estimates in km², comparisons against GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2, and a region-by-region breakdown.
